Ghaziabad: In a significant step toward eradicating manual scavenging, VA Tech Wabag has deployed the Bandicoot Robot in Ghaziabad, strengthening the city’s sanitation system under the “One City, One Operator” initiative.
The move marks another milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s mission to promote safe, mechanized, and technology-driven sanitation solutions.
Bandicoot Robot Expands Across Uttar Pradesh
The introduction of the Bandicoot Robot in Ghaziabad follows successful operations in Agra, where more than 1,500 manholes were cleaned within six months of its February 2025 launch.
The state’s commitment to advancing sanitation reform was further emphasized when Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the robot in Gorakhpur. Expansions are also underway in Bulandshahr this month.

Part of India’s Sanitation Reform Framework
First introduced in 2018 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Bandicoot Robot has become an integral part of India’s sanitation reforms.
It supports national programs such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Swachh Survekshan, and the Safaimitra Suraksha Challenge, all of which emphasize safe, dignified, and mechanized sanitation practices.
Technology-Driven Solution for Safer Sanitation
Developed by Genrobotics Innovations, the Bandicoot Robot is designed to eliminate human entry into hazardous sewer environments. The system features a robotic arm, stabilizing legs, and an integrated bucket mechanism to remove hardened sludge, blockages, and restore sewer flow – ensuring enhanced safety for sanitation workers.
Training and Skill Development for Workers
In addition to deploying the Bandicoot Robot, VA Tech Wabag is implementing training programs to help sanitation workers transition into certified robotic operators.
